Saints finish in 11th place at the Copperhead Championship

INNISBROOK, Fla. – The Flagler College men's golf team finished in 11th place with a 39-over par 891 (301-289-301) at the Copperhead Championship, which concluded this afternoon (Oct. 18) at the Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course (par 71; 7,209 yards).

Lee University shot a final round 1-under 283 to win the team title with a 1-over par 853 (283-287-283). The host school, No. 3 (Golfstat Division II Relative Ranking) University of West Florida finished two shots back after leading through 36 holes. The University of Tampa finished in third place with a 10-over 862 (289-283-290). The 13-team field featured 10 teams ranked in the Golfstat Division II Relative Ranking's Top 45.

Felipe Garces Garzon of West Florida and Matt Millar of Colorado State University-Pueblo were tied after 36 holes and remained that way after 54. Millar won the playoff on the first hole to earn medalist honors. Both golfers shot a 6-under 207. A pair of golfers from Lee, Beck Burnette and Oliver Lewis-Perkins, finished in a tie for third place at 4-under 209.

Joel Petersson led Flagler with an 8-over 221 (77-71-73) and finished in a tie for 30th place. He had nine birdies in the tournament and two of those came in the final round. Nic Eberhard and Trey Wilson both finished in a tie for 37th place with a 9-over 222. Franco Piovano shot a 13-over 226 while Gabriele Romani finished with a 27-over 240.

Flagler wraps up its fall schedule with the McDonough Cup at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Florida, Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
