ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jaizec Lottie led five Flagler College players in double figures with 22 points in a 79-66 win over No. 17 (NABC Division II Top 25) Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler improved to 14-3 overall and remains atop the conference standings with a 7-1 record. Augusta dropped to 14-3 overall and 4-3 in the Peach Belt.
"I am really proud of our team," said head coach
Chad Warner. "Augusta is really good and well coached. We were fortunate to have a lot of guys make winning plays in the second half."
The Jaguars led the entire first half and took a 35-31 lead into the locker rooms.
The Saints used an 18-5 run later in the second half to take control of the game. A
Chris Metzger layup gave Flagler a 61-59 lead with 6:52 left to start the run and a
Kohl Roberts 3-pointer with 2:03 remaining capped it and gave the Saints a 77-64 lead, their largest of the game. Flagler out-scored Augusta 48-31 in the second half.
The Saints shot a blistering 60 percent (21-35) from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Lottie added a game-high nine assists, six rebounds, and four steals.
Derrick Ellis, Jr. tallied 14 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Kohl Roberts recorded his first double-double as a Saint with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He had 10 points and five boards in the second half alone. Metzger finished with 12 points and
Spencer Bain came off the bench to tack on 11.
Tyshaun Crawford led the Jags with 21 points, eight rebounds, and he blocked three shots. Darren Lucas-White added 14 points and eight rebounds while Miguel Arnold finished with 12 points. Tyree Myers tallied seven assists.
Flagler visits Clayton State University on Wednesday (Jan. 26) at 7:30 p.m. at Morrow, Georgia.
