MORROW, Ga. –
Jaizec Lottie scored a game-high 31 points, and he completed his third double-double of the season with 10 rebounds, as No .23 (NABC Division II Top 25) Flagler College held off a pesky Clayton State University team 85-81 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at The Loch.
Flagler won its fifth game in a row to improve to 15-3 overall and 8-1 in the Peach Belt. The Saints sit atop the PBC by one full game over Georgia College. Clayton State lost its eighth game in a row and fell to 6-12 overall and 1-7 in conference play. This was the Lakers fourth game in the last five days.
"We were fortunate to get out of there with a win tonight," said head coach
Chad Warner. "I thought Clayton State was more focused and ready to play than we were. Road wins are tough in this league so I am thankful for that."
The game was back-and-forth with eight ties and 13 lead changes.
Jalen Barr's layup with 3:09 left in the game gave the Saints an 80-79 lead. Lottie's rebound and put-back just 36 seconds later provided just enough insurance for Flagler.
Curtis Lewis added 15 points for the Saints while Barr notched his third double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Chris Metzger tacked on 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
Flagler dominated inside outscoring Clayton State 56-18.
Jalen Shaw led the Lakers with 21 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Xavier Joyner added 19 points and Wes Williams contributed 11 points and five boards.
Flagler hosts Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
