Tori Pearce recorded her fifth 20-point performance of the season as
the Flagler College fell to the Georgia Southwestern State University by a final score of 73-63 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
With the loss, Flagler drops to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Georgia Southwestern improves to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the PBC.
"I thought GSW outplayed us on both ends of the floor for most of the game," said head coach
Mo Smith. "They are a talented team. I was certainly proud of our constant fight to get back in the game."
The Lady Hurricanes opened the game on a 10-4 run, which was capped off by a Jolicia Williams three-pointer.
Jaziana Mathis would respond with a three of her own, but the Georgia Southwestern would end the quarter with a 19-14 lead.
In the second quarter
s, the Lady Hurricanes busted the game open going on a 19-5 run in the first four minutes, making 8-of-9 during that stretch. Flagler
would responded by going on a 15-4 run to close the half to pull to within eight (42-34).
Georgia Southwestern would not give up the lead for the entirety of the second half.
Pearce added six assists and five rebounds to her team-high 20 points.
Jaziana Mathis finished with 18 points and
Amuk Tong tied her career high with 12 points to go alongside a season-high nine rebounds.
Sadie Russell also grabbed nine rebounds.
Ava Jones posted 20 points for Georgia Southwestern while Jacquelyn Levay supplied 16 more.
Flagler returns to action on Saturday
, concludes the regular season series with Young Harris College, with tipoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Young Harris, Georgia.
