INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Flagler College volleyball team earned an at-large berth and received the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional which will be held Dec. 2-4 at the Abney Athletic Center on the campus of Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina. The winners of the eight regionals will advance to the national finals Dec. 9-11 at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center in Tampa, Florida.
Flagler (21-5) opens play in the tournament against Wingate University (23-4). These two teams have had a storied past playing in the postseason. The Saints are 3-1 against the Bulldogs in regional play and all three victories came in the regional final (2009, 2011, and 2017). Wingate leads the all-time series 7-4, which includes a 3-0 sweep at Wingate on Oct. 30. Flagler is making its 10
th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The Saints became the first Peach Belt Conference team to go unscathed in league play, 10-0, since Armstrong State University went 18-0 in 2013. Leading Flagler is sophomore setter
Kennedy Muff. She received PBC Setter of the Year honors for the second year in a row as she has tallied 893 assists, but her game is multi-faceted. She is hitting .300 with 135 kills as well as 55 total blocks. Her 28 service aces are second on the team. Muff's eight double-doubles is tied for the team-lead.
Jordan Berglin became the program's fifth PBC Freshman of the Year. She is second on the team with 202 kills and has 144 digs.
Logan Garcia and
Rachel Machovec joined both Muff and Berglin on the all-conference team. Garcia leads the team with 84 total blocks and Machovec has a team-high 230 kills.
Wingate had its 10-match winning streak snapped in a 3-2 loss to Anderson University in a South Atlantic Conference Tournament semifinal. The Bulldogs are led by a pair of first team all-conference selections in Sophie Schaff and Shannon Kasprak. Schaff has a team-high 290 kills and is hitting an efficient .300. She also leads the club with 117 total blocks. Kasprak leads the team in assists with 975 and aces with 40. Maggie Young took home second team all-conference honors. She has 199 kills, a .366 hitting percentage, and has 86 total blocks.
