AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken erupted for five runs in the third inning and went on to defeat Flagler College 6-4 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
USC Aiken improved to 27-20 overall and 16-11 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 28-21 overall and 19-11 in conference play.
The Pacers strung together four consecutive hits in the third to ignite the rally. A Flagler error also led to a pair of unearned runs.
Jimmy Peck hit a two-run single in the fourth to cut into the deficit and
Sean Lawlor hit an RBI double in the fifth to get the Saints to within two runs, 5-3.
Austin Sandifer (4-0) was summoned into pitch for the Pacers. He retired seven of the eight batters he faced in his 2 2/3 innings of work.
Jon Yarbrough closed the final two innings to record his second save. He scattered four hits, allowed one run, and struck out three batters.
Jackson Hannon collected two hits and had two runs batted in for the Pacers. Joey Smithers finished with two singles and one RBI. Scott Huntley went 2-for-4 with a double and scored two runs.
Blair Calvo (1-3) allowed three earned runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out four batters.
Ryan Ashworth went the rest of the way and scattered four hits. He fanned five and allowed one run.
Dillon Reed hit three singles for the Saints. Connor Lapina singled twice and scored two runs.
Flagler will break for exams and then play its final game of the regular season May 6 at 5 p.m. at Eckerd College.
