ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College played one and one-half games today (March 3) as it completed a game from Saturday that was suspended due to rain and won that one 8-4 and then took the regularly scheduled game 4-2 to complete the series sweep of Lander University Sunday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 10-8 overall and 5-4 in the Peach Belt. Lander dropped to 8-11 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
On Saturday, the game was halted in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Saints holding a 4-1 lead.
Frankie Martello belted a solo home run in the first to give the Saints an early lead. Flagler added another run in the second.
After the Bearcats plated a run in the top of the fifth, the Saints erupted for two more before the rains came.
Jason Moore hit a two-run single to center to give Flagler a 4-1 lead.
Steven DiPuglia followed with an infield single and the game was stopped due to the weather.
Connor Laspina got the resumed game started on Sunday with a base hit to load the sacks full of Saints.
Franco Camacho laced a single to left-center to score two more runs and give Flagler a commanding 6-1 lead.
The Bearcats got a run in the seventh on Roury Glanton's blast down the left field line.
They added two more in the eight, but Flagler answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the eighth.
Ja'Kobi Dasher had a pinch hit double that scored a run and
Dillon Reed drove him home with a single.
Robert Girgis (3-0) allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts on Saturday.
Blair Calvo picked up the save by tossing all four innings today. He allowed two earned runs with four strikeouts.
DiPuglia went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Moore finished 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored, and he had two runs batted in. Camacho singled twice and knocked in two runs.
Davis Cunningham (2-2) took the loss on the hill for Lander. He surrendered five runs on seven hits. Cunningham struck out five batters.
Colton Yeager singled twice and drove in a run while Zack Moore went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and one RBI.
In the regularly scheduled game, the Saints erased an early 1-0 Bearcat advantage thanks to a two-run double by
Sean Lawlor in the home-half of the first inning.
In the second, Dasher singled home Laspina who led off the inning with a double to left field.
Ryan Ashworth (2-2) scattered five hits and allowed two runs over six innings to pick up the win.
Nick Martinez tossed three scoreless innings to record his first save of the year.
Lawlor went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI for Flagler.
Aaron Anderson collected two singles and scored a run. Dasher finished with two singles and he knocked in a run.
Joseph Whitt (3-2) surrendered three runs on seven hits in five innings of work and took the loss for the Bearcats.
Nathan Schreckengost went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Josh Gregory hit a pair of singles.
Flagler plays host to Assumption College from Worcester, Massachusetts on Tuesday (March 5) at 4 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
