Neo’s bases-clearing double proves to be the game-winning hit

ST. AUGUSTINE – Justin Neo hit a bases-clearing double in the seventh inning to rally Flagler College past Assumption College 8-6 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at a chilly Drysdale Field.

Flagler extended its winning streak to four games and improved to 11-8 overall. Assumption dropped to 6-2.

The Saints trailed 6-3 going into the home half of the seventh. A pair of walks chased Greyhounds reliever Mike Keinz and Kyle Autilio (0-1) came in to pitch. Frankie Martello reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Pinch hitter Jason Moore drew a bases loaded walk and Neo hit his double down the left field line to clear the bases and give the Saints a 7-6 lead. Neo scored the insurance run scoring on a sacrifice fly by Elliott Schubert.

Ethan Jones closed the game for the Saints as he struck out all three batters in the eighth on nine pitches. He hit the first batter he faced in the ninth, but got a double play and then fielded a ground ball back to the mound for the final out.

Noah Allen (1-1) picked up his first collegiate win after tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. He allowed one hit and walked a batter. Cooper Wallace, Austin Kunde, Kyle Hansen, and Dante Pagano all saw time on the mound for Flagler today.

Schubert went 3-for-3 with a double, one run batted in, and he scored a run. Neo went 2-for-4 with the double, three RBI, and a run scored.

Flagler drew eight walks.

Autilio surrendered three runs on two hits in picking up the loss. Four different Greyhounds pitched.

Jared Brescia went 2-for-4 with a double. Joe Michael hit a three-run home run in the fourth to give Assumption a 4-1 lead. He drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth.

Flagler hosts Florida Tech tomorrow night (6 p.m.) at Drysdale Field.
