Reed’s two-run single in the seventh powers Saints past Jaguars

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Dillon Reed's two-run single in the seventh inning broke up a 7-all tie and led Flagler College to a 9-7 win over Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

Flagler took the weekend series and improved to 15-13 overall and 9-6 in the Peach Belt. Augusta dropped to 13-12 overall and 4-11 in conference play.

Elliott Schubert led off the top of the seventh with a double to left field off Jaguar reliever Chase Slone (1-3). Steven DiPuglia drew a walk and Justin Neo followed by reaching on a bunt single to load the bases. Reed finished it off with his single to left to score Schubert and DiPuglia.

Nick Martinez was summoned out of the bull pen for Flagler and he tossed three scoreless innings to record his second save of the season. He allowed one hit, but faced the minimum nine batters.

Ryan Ashworth (4-2) earned the win in relief as he allowed two runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. He fanned four batters.

Jason Moore went 2-for-5 with a double and three runs batted in. Reed finished with two singles, two runs scored, and two RBI. Aaron Anderson singled, doubled, and scored two runs. Neo collected two hits.

Slone was tagged with the loss for the Jaguars. He worked just one inning and surrendered two runs on three hits.

Trent Maddox paced the offense going 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI. Ben Markiewicz collected three singles and scored a run.

Flagler hosts Florida Southern College on Tuesday (March 19) at 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
