Saints salvage series with win over Patriots

FLORENCE, S.C. – Flagler College used six different pitchers and a four-run fourth inning to defeat Francis Marion University 5-2 in the Peach Belt Conference series finale Sunday afternoon at Sparrow Stadium.

Flagler improved to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the Peach Belt. Francis Marion had its six-game winning streak snapped and fell to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

After spotting the Patriots a 1-0 lead early, the Saints struck for four runs in the fourth inning with three of those runs being unearned.

Back-to-back singles by Ja'Kobi Dasher and Nikolas Dague put runners on the corners with one out. A wild pitch by Josh Bobrowski (1-2) allowed Dasher to score and Dague advanced to second. Dillon Reed reached on an error by the Patriot center fielder and was able to get all the way to second while Dague stopped at third. Frankie Martello flew out to left field, which was deep enough to plate Dague and give the Saints a 2-1 lead. The next two batters drew walks to load the bases and Austin Davis followed by reaching on an error by the first baseman, which allowed two more runs to score.

Dasher added an RBI single in the seventh.

Jett Walsh (1-1) scattered three hits over 3 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win in relief. Blair Calvo started and struck out four batters in 1 1/3 innings. Noah Allen followed while Austin Kunde, Nick Martinez, and Ethan Jones followed Walsh. Jones recorded his first save of the year as he pitched a scoreless ninth. He allowed two singles, but he struck out two batters.

Bobrowski took the loss after allowing only two hits and one earned run. He walked six and struck out three.

Cole Hinnant collected two singles and scored a run.

Flagler visits Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Daytona Beach.
