Embry-Riddle outslugs Flagler

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A two-run sixth followed by a six-run seventh helped Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University rally past Flagler College 14-8 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Sliwa Stadium.

Embry-Riddle improved to 3-4 while Flagler dipped to 6-6.

A Dillon Reed two-run double down the left field line in the fourth gave the Saints a 6-5 lead.

The Eagles were able to regain the lead in the sixth thanks to a two-run triple to the right-center gap by Kirk Sidwell.

Embry-Riddle wasn't done. They sent 11 men to the plate in the seventh and scored six runs on seven hits to take a 13-6 lead. Luis Olivier hit a three-run home run and two batters later, Zach Howard hit a two-run shot.

Troy Naab (2-0) earned the win in relief for the Eagles. He pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed one hit. Naab was one of five different pitchers used by Embry-Riddle.

Howard paced the 19-hit Eagle attack going 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, three runs batted in, and he scored three runs. Sidwell went 4-for-5 with three doubles and a triple, one RBI, and two runs scored. Cole Habig collected three singles and scored a run.

The Saints used six pitchers tonight and Ryan Ashworth (1-2) took the loss. He allowed four runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Reed went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored, and two RBI. Steven DiPuglia went 2-for-3 with a double and he knocked in three runs.

Flagler wraps up its seven-game road swing this weekend with a three-game series at the University of North Georgia. The series starts on Friday at 6 p.m. at Dahlonega.
