DAYTONA BEACH – The Flagler College men's tennis team made the short trek down to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University this weekend (Sept. 14-16) for the ERAU Open to begin the fall season.
Felipe Carvalho turned in a 4-0 record in singles play this weekend.
Konstantin Dustmann went 3-1 while
Luca Bolla,
Grant Kayworth, and
Lukas Storck went 2-1.
In doubles, the tandem of Dustmann and Storck went 2-0. Bolla and
Rasmus Jonsson won their lone doubles match.
Some of the tournament was wiped out due to rain on Saturday.
Carvalho played in the Gold Flight and opened the tournament with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 win over Jose Plazas of Bethune-Cookman University. He downed Lucas Bos of Embry-Riddle 7-6(3), 6-3 and then outlasted Victor Castro of Bethune-Cookman 6-3, 2-6, 10-5. Sunday morning, Carvalho cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Adriel Azucey of Eastern Florida State College.
Dustmann played in the Blue Flight and posted wins over Juan Pendones Zerba (6-0, 7-6(3) of Eastern Florida State, Phillip Lynch (7-6(2), 6-2) of Bethune-Cookman, and Pendones Zerba (6-3, 6-3).
In doubles play, Dustmann and Storck recorded wins over Azuecey and Gonzalo Smulski of Eastern Florida State, 8-2, and Lynch and Juan Navarro of Bethune-Cookman, 8-4.
