Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Justin Glover's three-run home run in the seventh inning helped Eckerd College rally past No. 26 (
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) Flagler College 6-5 in a non-conference baseball game Friday night at the Turley Complex.
Eckerd improved to 17-16 overall while Flagler falls to 26-11.
The Tritons used three home runs to power their way past the Saints.
Nick Conti (2-for-4) led off the bottom of the first with a homer to left-center and then Keith Leavitt, Jr. started the seventh with a home run to cut Flagler's lead to 4-3. Later, Glover's blast gave the Tritons the lead for good.
Cameron Lanzilli (2-0) picked up the win in relief for Eckerd. He tossed three scoreless innings, scattered three hits and struck out a batter. Lanzilli was the third of five pitchers used. Jarid Salisbury retired the only two batters he faced in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
The Saints scored two runs in the first off Triton ace Dillon McCullough.
Ethan Crout opened the game by hitting a shot off McCullough that ricocheted into right field. Crout was able to get to second base with a double, but the throw from Jake Romine to second base got away and allowed Crout to scamper to third base. After a walk,
Frankie Martello plated Crout with a sacrifice fly.
Jason Moore hit a double to right field and
Dillon Reed took third.
Aaron Anderson's single to left scored Reed to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
After allowing two runs in the bottom of the first, Flagler came back to score two more in the third. Moore and Anderson led off the inning with a pair of singles, the latter chased McCullough.
Sean Lawlor drew a walk from reliever Jack Iervolino to load the bases. A sacrifice fly scored Moore and then
Steven DiPuglia's single to left scored Anderson. Flagler led 4-2.
Trailing 6-4 in the top of the ninth, Triton reliever Joey Favetta could not retire a batter. Reed led off the inning with a single and Martello followed suit with a base hit up the middle. Moore reached on a fielder's choice on a grounder to third base where everyone was safe. Favetta then hit Anderson to force in a run. Salisbury came on and got Lawlor to hit a line drive to Conti at second base who flipped the ball to shortstop Chase Acuff to double-up Moore. The
Ja'Kobi Dasher hit a line drive to center field to end the game.
The Saints stranded 11 runners on base, six of which were in scoring position.
Ryan Ashworth (4-5) took the loss for the Saints. He allowed eight hits and six runs in 6 1/3 innings pitched. He walked one batter and struck out six.
Crout and Reed each went 2-for-4 with a double. Crout scored one run while Reed scored twice. Anderson collected two singles and scored a run. .
The two teams will meet in a doubleheader at 11 a.m. tomorrow (April 7). The games were bumped up an hour due to the threat of inclement weather.
