No. 13 Georgia College rallies past Flagler, 8-7

Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – No. 13 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 30) Georgia College used a three-run seventh inning to rally past Flagler College 8-7  in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday evening at John Kurtz Field.

Georgia College improved to 28-8 overall and 20-2 in the Peach Belt. The Bobcats boast the best record in the conference and also holds a 16-2 mark at home. Flagler fell to 28-13 overall and 15-7 in conference play.

The Saints held a 7-5 lead after scoring three runs in the sixth thanks to RBI doubles by Nikolas Dague, Dillon Reed and Frankie Martello.

Bobcat reliever Bradley Cammack (9-1) came on to pitch in the sixth inning, in between Reed's and Martello's doubles, and managed to quiet the Flagler bats. He tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win. Cammack struck out four batters and was able to induce a pop out to end the game with runners at second and third.

With two outs in the seventh, Logan Mattix singled up the middle. That chased Flagler starter Ryan Ashworth and in came Ethan Jones (5-1). Nate Schmal singled to right field and was able to advance to second when Reed had trouble fielding the ball.  Mattix rounded second and headed to third when Reed made another error as his wild throw allowed Mattix to score.

Brandon Purcell stepped to the plate and belted a two-run home run to left-center to put Georgia College ahead.

Mattix collected three singles for Georgia College and scored two runs. Purcell finished 2-for-2 with the home run, two runs scored and three runs batted in. He drew a pair of walks. Brandt Stallings went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and another driven in.

Jones worked 1 1/3 innings in relief and allowed two runs on three hits.

Aaron Anderson went a perfect 5-for-5 with a double and he scored a run. Steven DiPuglia hit two singles, scored two runs and knocked in two more. Dague singled twice scored a run and had two RBI. Reed finished with two singles, scored a run and he drove in another.

Due to inclement weather in the forecast for Sunday, the two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
