ORLANDO, Fla. – After the first 36 holes, the Flagler College men's golf team is in 12
th place (306-293) at the McDonough Cup, which was played Monday (Oct. 29) afternoon at the Rio Pinar Country Club (par 72; 6,955 yards). The final round will be played tomorrow starting at 7:45 a.m.
Tied atop the 18-team field is Rollins College and Wingate University. Both shot an 8-over 584. Wingate's 288 in the second round allowed it to move up five spots. Rollins shot a 289 in the first round and was the leader in the clubhouse after 18 holes. Just four shots back in third place is Columbus State University (588). Newberry College (589) is in fourth place while the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Erskine College are tied for fifth place at 591.
Leading the 99-man field is Columbus State's Jordan Doull, who shot a 7-under par 137. He shot a 5-under 67 in the first round. He holds a five-shot lead over Jonathan Noble of Queens University of Charlotte and James Henderson of Missouri-St. Louis. Both are at 2-under.
Juan Iturra is leading the way for Flagler. He is in a tie for seventh place with an even par 144. He shot a 1-under in the first round.
Mauro Baez carded a 3-over 147 and is in a tie for 16
th place. His 2-under 70 in the second round allowed him to vault 42 spots on the leader board.
Charles Collings (+12),
Niklas Grotterud (+12), and
Chun Yan Leong (+13) rounded out the Saints golfers.
