FLORENCE, Ky. – Former Flagler College pitcher
Michael Maiocco signed a free agent contract Tuesday (June 20) with the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League, an independent baseball league in the Midwest.
Maiocco was selected to the all-Peach Belt Conference second team this spring after posting a 9-5 record with two complete games, including one shutout. The Atlanta, Georgia native made 15 appearances with 14 starts and had a staff-best 4.30 earned run average. His 65 strikeouts led the staff. Maiocco finished fifth in the PBC in wins and complete games, ninth in innings pitched (83.2) and 13
th in strikeouts.
Maiocco earned all-region honors in 2016 with a 7-1 record and a 4.13 ERA. He earned CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors. In his three-year career with the Saints, he posted a 21-10 record with a 4.40 ERA and 203 strikeouts in 204.1 innings pitched.
The Freedom is in first place in the Frontier League's West Division with a 23-11 record and they lead the division by five games. The franchise has won three league titles, but those came at different locations as the franchise has moved three times. The Freedom have played in Florence since the 2003 season.
