Box Score 2 GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Flagler College split a pair of volleyball matches to wrap up the Pioneer Classic on Saturday (Sept. 13) at Pioneer Arena. The Saints fell to Lincoln Memorial University 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 19-25, 22-25) in the day's opener, but then downed Belmont Abbey College 3-1 (24-26, 26-24, 25-18, 25-23) to leave with a 2-2 record in the tournament.
Flagler leaves Tennessee with a 5-4 overall record.
Genel Sturgeon led the offensive attack with 29 kills and also added 21 digs in the two matches this afternoon.
Sara Davis added 26 kills, hit .377 and added eight total blocks.
Megan Hooks contributed 20 kills and 23 digs.
Amelia Morgan tallied 86 assists, 14 digs and five total blocks while
Ashley Lechleidner-Rodriguez paced the defense with 37 digs.
"In the Lincoln Memorial match we had to make some lineup adjustments and we reacted well to that early on but we wore down a little bit at the end," said Flagler head coach
Matt Affolder. "Belmont Abbey had one big outside hitter that got set a ton of balls so we figured out a way to defend her and then it was just about us serving and passing. We served really well (nine aces) in the match and located."
In the opener against Lincoln Memorial, Sturgeon and Davis combined for 26 kills (13 each). Sturgeon added a match-high 15 digs to complete the double-double while Davis hit .296 and added four block assists. Hooks tacked on nine kills and 11 digs for the Saints. Morgan tallied a match-high 41 assists.
Jenea Reddick and
Ashley Cheewah both collected four block assists.
Brooke Fleeman led a balanced scoring attack for the Railsplitters with nine kills. MaRanda Boddie and Allison Beavers each added seven kills. Casey Mense collected 12 digs and Abby Cash tallied 31 assists. Jazzy Oates had three aces and four total blocks.

In the final match against Belmont Abbey, the Saints got solid offensive production from Sturgeon (16 kills), Davis (13 kills) and Hooks (11 kills) to win in four over the Crusaders.
Hooks added 12 digs to complete her second double-double of the tournament while Davis had another efficient hitting day with a .462 percentage. On 26 swings, she only had one attack error. Davis also had four block assists. Lechleidner-Rodriguez collected a team-high 25 digs while
Amber Peone added 17 more. Morgan added her own double-double with a season-high 45 assists to go along with 11 digs.
Taja Valmyr came off the bench to add five kills and hit .455.
Hannah Schellenberg recorded a match-high 26 kills and added 11 digs for Belmont Abbey. Julie Newell collected a match-high 28 digs and Coreen Norwood added six kills and four bock assists. Gabby Martinez tallied 22 assists and 12 digs.
Flagler remains on the road next week as it heads to former rival Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, ranked No. 20 in the NAIA, on Tuesday (Sept. 16) at 7 p.m. at the ICI Center.
