Davis records rare triple-double in Flagler’s 3-2 loss

Box Score GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Sara Davis recorded the first-ever triple-double in the history of Flagler College but it wasn't enough in a 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24, 10-15) lost to King College of Bristol, Tennessee in a non-conference volleyball match Friday evening at Pioneer Arena.

Flagler falls to 4-3 overall on the season and is 1-1 in the Pioneer Classic. King improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the tournament after winning another match later in the night.

"Sara had a monster game for us tonight," said Matt Affolder, the Flagler head volleyball coach. "She really brought it from the first point and made a couple smooth blocks late in the fourth set which helped us get to the fifth set."

Davis recorded a season-high 16 kills, collected a match-high 11 total blocks and added 10 digs to complete the triple-double. She tied a school record for total blocks, matching the mark held by Kelly Boese (at Florida Tech, Oct. 16, 2007). Davis also hit a spectacular .364 with no errors on 44 swings. Genel Sturgeon recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs while Megan Hooks added 11 kills, 14 digs and seven block assists. Ashley Lechleidner-Rodriguez collected a season-high 27 digs and Caitlyn Kovach added 22 more. Amelia Morgan recorded her second double-double of the season with 42 assists and 17 digs. She also had five block assists.

Flagler's 32 block assists broke a previous school record of 30 set on Dec. 6, 2013 against Armstrong State University.

Summer Kremer recorded a match-high 24 kills for the Tornado and completed the double-double with a match-high 31 digs. Grace Underwood added 11 kills and hit .381 while Jordan Baty tacked on 10 more kills. Olivia Underwood recorded a double-double with 55 assists and 10 digs.

There were a total of 19 ties and eight lead changes in the match.

Flagler takes on Lincoln Memorial University at 11 a.m. and Belmont Abbey College at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 13) to complete play in the Pioneer Classic.
