Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE – An RBI-double by Jeff Rice followed by a two-run home run by Hunter Boose helped Georgia Regents University Augusta stun Flagler College 5-3 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field.

The second game was suspended with GRU Augusta leading Flagler in game two 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh. The Saints have the bases loaded. The game will be resumed tomorrow (April 6) at noon.

GRU Augusta improved to 14-22 overall and 6-14 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 18-17 overall and 9-13 in conference play.

Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning, but it was the fifth inning that the Jaguars took the lead for good. JD Sabo got things started with a one-out single. Rice followed with his double, scoring Sabo. Then Boose stepped to the plate and belted his fifth home run of the season.

The Saints got one run back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI-single by Andrew Brodbeck. The Jaguars got that run back in the sixth.

Flagler added a run in ninth.

Kip Custer (4-5) tossed eight-plus innings, scattered 10 hits, allowed three runs, walked one and struck out eight batters. Clint Echols finished up to earn his fifth save of the season.

Sabo went 3-for-5 while Ross Miles went 2-for-4 with one run batted in.

Danny Brown (2-2), who was making just his second start of the year, went the distance, surrendered 10 hits and five runs in taking the loss on the hill. He struck out five batters.

Brodbeck collected three singles and drove in two runs for the Saints. Joe Post hit a pair of singles and scored a run. Todd Juliano singled, doubled and scored a run. Lorenzo Butler singled twice and scored a run.

The two teams will pick up the second game at noon tomorrow and then play the rubber game.
