Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE – Armstrong Atlantic State University's Ethan Bader (8-1) tossed a complete game seven-hitter in a 3-2 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field.

Armstrong improved to 21-14 overall and 12-11 in the Peach Belt. Flagler falls to 18-23 overall and 9-17 in conference play.

The Pirates got on the board first with a pair of unearned runs in the third inning. Joey Lupus led off by reaching first after being hit by a pitch by Flagler starter Jake Brandenberger. He was sacrificed over to second and then took third on a single by Tyler Avera. Clayton Miller hit a ground ball that got through Flagler third baseman Rubert Alcanatara and into left field. Lupus scored on the miscue. R.J. Dennard followed with a base hit to center field which scored the next run.

The Saints answered in the fifth on Andrew Brodbeck's two-run single.

But that would be it. Bader struck out eight batters and walked just three. He retired 11 of the last 14 batters he faced.

In the ninth, Dalton Johnson led off with a single of Flagler reliever Mike O'Reilly (3-3). He was sacrificed over to second base, then Avera singled sharply up the middle, the ball just out of reach of Brodbeck at second. Johnson scored easily from second base.

Avera singled twice, scored a run and drove in another for Armstrong. Dennard singled, doubled, was hit by a pitch and collected one run batted in.

O'Reilly tossed 1.2 innings in relief. He allowed just two hits, one run, walked two and struck out three batters. Brandenberger went 7.1 innings, scattered five hits, allowed two unearned runs, walked two and struck out seven.

Nick Kranick collected three singles for the Saints. Brodbeck singled, doubled and drove in both Flagler runs.

The same two teams meet tomorrow (April 13) on "Tim Barnwell Day" at Drysdale Field at 1 p.m.
