Box Score GAFFNEY, S.C. –
Zach Shanahan's first goal of the season broke a 1-all tie and proved to be the game-winning goal as No. 10 (NSCAA/Continental Tire Division II Top 25) Flagler College rallied past Limestone College 2-1 in non-conference men's soccer match Sunday afternoon at Saints Field.
Flagler remained undefeated at 2-0-0 while Limestone evened its record at 1-1.
In the 38th minute, Shanahan received a cross pass from the right wing from
Michael Amaya and took it in and blasted a shot from 15 yards out and tucked the ball inside the right post to give Flagler its first and only lead of the contest.
Just seven minutes earlier,
Kevin Keenan notched the equalizer when headed in a
Marco Padilla cross from the left wing.
Sam Orritt got the home-standing Limestone side on the board first when he collected a bad clear and buried the ball in the back of the net in the 22nd minute.
Neither side could score in the second half. Limestone had nine shots, but to no avail.
Camp Bissell recorded two saves for Flagler while Kyle Karagitz tallied three saves for Limestone.
Limestone held a 12-10 advantage in shots, but both sides recorded six corner kicks apiece. Limestone was caught for 15 infractions while Flagler only had eight fouls.
Flagler will take on No. 9 Rollins College on Wednesday (Sept. 11) at Winter Park at 7 p.m.
