9/14/2013 10:08:00 PM

Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE – Sven Ricke and Shahin Hemat scored a pair of first half goals which would be all that Francis Marion University would need to upset No. 4 (NSCAA/Continental Tire Division II Top 25) Flagler College in the Peach Belt Conference men's soccer opener for both teams Saturday night at Saints Field.

Francis Marion remains undefeated with a 2-0-1 overall record and Flagler suffered its second consecutive set-back and dropped to 2-2-0. Flagler had won the previous four meetings against Francis Marion.

Hemat's goal proved to be the game-winner. Pascal Magiera passed from the top right corner of the box to the middle to Hemat who buried a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal in the 39th minute to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead.

That would be the score going into the half.

Flagler cut into the deficit when Marco Warren gathered a loose pass at the top of the box and blasted a shot from 16 yards out and the Saints trailed 2-1 in the 55th minute.

Cody Farrier gave the Patriots an insurance goal in the 73rd minute as he received a touch pass into the middle of the box and he chipped the Flagler keeper.

Sven Ricke provided the first tally of the night for Francis Marion. He intercepted a clear and blasted a shot that deflected off the underside of the crossbar and hit behind the line in the 28th minute.

Nick Stover tallied six saves for the Patriots while Camp Bissell stopped three shots.

The shots were nearly even, but Flagler held a 16-14 advantage. The corner kicks were one-sided as the Saints came out ahead, 9-2. Flagler committed 10 fouls and Francis Marion nine.

Flagler steps out of conference to take on a Southeast Region opponent in Anderson University on Tuesday (Sept. 17) at 4 p.m. at Saints Field.
