Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Jay Laurienzo belted a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning as Flagler College used the long ball and solid pitching to defeat Augusta State University 5-1 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game on a soggy Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
Today was supposed to be a doubleheader, but rain postponed the second game so both teams will try and get the twinbill in tomorrow (May 5) at noon, weather permitting.
Flagler won its ninth consecutive game and guaranteed at least a .500 season as its record is now 24-22 overall and is 10-17 in the Peach Belt. Augusta State lost its 21st consecutive game and fell to 10-38 overall and 3-25 in league play.
The Saints erased a 1-0 deficit after Laurienzo's home run and
Jake Hanson hit a three-run home run in seventh for insurance.

Jake Brandenberger (9-2) would need as he tossed six complete innings, allowed just two hits and one run. He walked two and struck out four. Brandenberger is tied for the conference lead in wins and is the first pitcher to win at least nine games in a season since Johnny Gaines in 2010.
Justin Ratte earned his second save of the season by closing the last three innings and allowed just one hit and a walk. He retired nine of the 11 batters he faced.
Brett Moreland and
Nick Kranick each singled twice and scored a run for Flagler.
Josh Barks (0-5) tossed seven innings, surrendered seven hits and five runs, walked three and struck out eight in taking the loss for the Jaguars.
Bryson Stack singled twice and J.D. Sabo hit a double and scored a run.
