Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAVANNAH, Ga. – Armstrong Atlantic State University collected 28 hits, including five doubles and a triple, and scored 19 runs to complete a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader sweep of Flagler College Saturday afternoon at Pirate Field. Armstrong rallied to win the opener 7-3 and then scored 11 runs in four innings to rally past Flagler 12-7 in the second game.

Armstrong won its third game in a row, and is 8-1 in its last nine, to improve to 21-9 overall and 12-7 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 15-20 overall and 7-16 in conference play.

In the opener, Flagler jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after RBI-singles by Nick Kranick in the first inning, Jake Jacob in the second and Joe Post in the third.

But that would be all of the offense the Saints could muster. Flagler did its damage against starter Chris Base. It was the combined bullpen duo of Mitchell Dolan (2-0) and Juan Vera who shut down the Flagler offense, holding it to three hits and without a run in the last 5 2/3 innings.

The Pirates took the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning and it was a miscue by the Saints that led to the offensive spurt. With two outs, back-to-back singles by Cody Sherlin and Chris Fritts got Armstrong going. An error by Flagler third baseman Mitch Okey kept the inning going and loaded the bases. Chase Butler followed with a two-run single and two batters later, Clayton Miller ripped a two-run single and the Pirates grabbed a 6-3 lead.

Armstrong added another run in the sixth.

Dolan tossed four scoreless innings in relief, allowed three hits, walked three and struck out three.

Miller led the Pirates going 4-for-5 with three runs batted in.

Danny Brown (2-5) went the distance and surrendered 13 hits, two earned runs, walked two and fanned five.

Post collected three singles, scored a run and drove in another. Jake Hanson and Jay Laurienzo each hit two singles.

In game two, Flagler had an early 3-1 lead only to see it dissolve away in fourth and fifth innings.

A pair of sacrifice flies and an RBI-triple by Post in the fourth inning gave the Saints a 3-1 lead.

It was the home half of the fourth inning that proved to be big as Armstrong sent eight batters to the plate and scored three runs on four hits. Two costly errors by Flagler helped the inning along. Will Thomas hit a two-out, two-run single to tie the game at 3-all. Fritts drove in Sherlin with a single to give the Pirates the lead for good.

The Pirates added three more in the fifth, two of those runs were scored on Miller's triple.

Armstrong added four more runs in the seventh to take a commanding 12-5 lead.

Brett Moreland hit a two-run double in the top of the ninth for the Saints.

Ethan Bader (5-0) tossed six innings, scattered five hits and allowed three runs. He struck out eight batters.

Fritts paced the 15-hit attack as he went 3-for-5 with two doubles, three runs batted in and he scored a run. Miller went 3-for-4 with a triple, knocked in two runs and scored two runs.

Tyler Ward (2-2) tossed five innings, allowed 10 hits and four earned runs in the loss on the mound for the Saints.

Hanson went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Andrew Brodbeck singled, doubled, scored a run and drove in another. Moreland drove in four runs with his double and a pair of sacrifice flies.

The same two teams meet tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the series finale.
