Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College spotted Edward Waters College the first three runs of the game, but went on to score nine unanswered runs to cruise to a 9-3 non-conference victory Tuesday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler extended its winning streak to three games and improved to 18-22 overall. Edward Waters, an independent NAIA school, fell to 29-23.
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth,
Brett Moreland got the offense going with a one-out triple to right-center. He scored on
Jay Laurienzo's ground out.
Chace Mitchell followed with a double to the left-center gap and he would score on
Joe Post's single. Two batters later,
Justin McKenna drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game at 3-all.
The Saints took the lead for good when they scored an unearned run in the sixth. With the bases loaded and one-out, Moreland hit a sacrifice fly to right center to score
Shaun Starnes and Flagler took a 4-3 lead. A fielding error by the Edward Waters third baseman accounted for the unearned run.
Flagler added one more in the seventh and then erupted for four in the eighth to complete the 9-3 rout. The Saints sent 10 men to the plate in the eighth and plated four runs on three hits. Post hit a two-run single for the Saints.
Justin Ratte (3-4) tossed four perfect innings of relief to earn the win. He retired all 12 batters he faced and struck out four.
Beau Beaudreau notched his third save pitching two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, a walk and fanned three. Between Ratte and Beaudreau, they retired 15 EWC batters in a row.
Tyler Vanover went 3-for-5 with a double, scored three runs and had a run batted in. Post collected a pair of singles and drove in three runs. Starnes singled twice, was hit by a pitch twice, scored a run and knocked in a run. Moreland singled, tripled, scored twice and had one RBI.
Dalton Ripley (1-1) tossed 1 2/3 innings of relief and took the loss for the Tigers. He allowed one unearned run, walked a batter and struck out two.
Reynaldo Otero singled twice and drove in two runs. Austin Marzolph also singled twice for Edward Waters.
The same two teams meet tomorrow (April 24) at 4 p.m. at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
