No. 14 Flagler got swept at USC Aiken on Saturday.

USC Aiken sweeps pair from No. 14 Flagler

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AIKEN, S.C. – USC Aiken swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader from No. 14 (NFCA/Division II Top 25) Flagler College Saturday afternoon at J.H. Satcher Field. The Pacers won the opener 6-4 and completed the sweep with a 5-1 win..

USC Aiken improved to 14-6-1 overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 16-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

In the opener, the Pacers used a safety squeeze in the bottom of the fifth inning to help erase a 4-all tie and take a 5-4 lead. After Victoria Burkett led off the inning with a single, she stole second base and then advanced to third on Hilary Stewart's single. Two batters later, Brandy Bossle dropped the squeeze bunt down and Burkett scored the eventual game-winning run.

Burkett added an RBI-single in the sixth for insurance. She finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and two more driven in.

Lindsey Jones singled twice and scored two runs.

India Kornegay (7-2) went the distance and allowed six hits and one earned run, but struck out seven batters batters.

Lauren Bessent singled twice for the Saints and she drove in a run.

Kalyn Loverich (8-5) allowed 12 hits in six innings of work. She allowed six runs, but struck out eight batters.

The second game, Taylor Morgan (7-4) tossed a two-hitter as the Pacers won 5-1.

Morgan retired the last 13 of 14 batters she faced. She allowed just one run, walked one and fanned three. Morgan induced 10 fly outs and eight ground outs.

The Saints had just two runners reach scoring position.

After Flagler scored a run in the top of the third, USC Aiken erupted for four runs in the home half of its inning. Jones hit a two-run single to put the Pacers on top 2-1.

Jones went 2-for-3 with the double, scored a run and drove in two. Cortney Sadler and Shannon Traylor each collected two singles.

Katie Enright (7-2) went the distance and surrendered eight hits and three earned runs. She fanned three.

Lauren Roudabush and Kirstie Flink each singled for the Saints.

Flagler returns home to face Wayne State University of Michigan on Monday (Mar. 11) at 4 p.m. at Flagler Field.
