3/5/2013 9:49:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 16 (NFCA/Division II Top 25) Flagler College swept a non-conference doubleheader against Barry University by the scores of 2-0 and 6-1 Tuesday evening at Flagler Field.

Flagler improved to 16-6 on the season while Barry fell to 12-9.

In the opener, Kalyn Loverich (8-4) tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out five batters to earn the win. She only allowed four base runners to reach scoring position.

Kirstie Flink, Malloree Escue and Marissa Blake each hit a double for Flagler.

The Saints scored both runs in the fourth inning. Flink hit a double to left-center, but Christen Moon was thrown out at the plate to keep the game scoreless. Melanie Oliver followed with a single to right to plate Flink with the game's first run. Oliver took second base when the throw to the plate from right field went to the backstop. Two batters later, Lauren Bessent singled to the left-center gap to score Oliver. Bessent was thrown out trying to advance to second on the throw.

Alexis Yohe (5-4) tossed four innings, allowed five hits and two runs for the Buccaneers.

Paula Macklin and Ashley Fernandez each collected a single.

In the nightcap, Flagler took advantage of a Barry miscue in the second inning. Already ahead 1-0, Bessent was at second after leading off the inning by reaching first when she was hit by a pitch. Bessent was sacrificed to second base and after Blake grounded out to third, she took off for third base. Barry first baseman Julie Brito made an errant throw to third allowing Bessent to score.

That's all of the offense Katie Enright (7-1) would need. She scattered seven hits over seven innings and allowed one run with four strikeouts. Enright worked out of a couple of jams, one in the fourth and another in the fifth, but managed to get out relatively unscathed.

The Buccaneers stranded 10 runners, including five in scoring position.

Tori Jolley belted a two-run home run to right-center in the fourth inning and Blake hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.

Molly Whittington singled, doubled and scored a pair of runs for the Saints.

Taylor Sabol (1-1) tossed four innings and surrendered four hits and three earned runs.

Sarah Boeseker singled twice. Alexis Kent singled home pinch runner Christal Cruz in the fourth.

Flagler will head back to South Carolina for the weekend, this time to take on Peach Belt Conference rival, USC Aiken, on Saturday (Mar. 9) at 1 p.m. The Saints were in Spartanburg, S.C., last weekend.
