Box Score 2 GAFFNEY, S.C. –
Lauren Bessent went 4-for-7 with a grand slam to help Flagler College split a non-conference doubleheader at Limestone College on Saturday at Saints Field. Limestone rallied to win the opener 5-4, but Flagler jumped out to an early lead and held on to win 8-5 in the second game.
Flagler is now 24-14 on the season while Limestone is 15-13.
In the first game, Flagler sprinted to a 4-1 lead as it scored two runs in each of the first two innings.
Malloree Escue hit a two-single in the first. A fielding error by the Limestone left fielder in the second led to two more runs for Flagler.
Limestone tallied a run in the third to cut the deficit to 4-2, but they scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to complete the rally.
A pair of one-out singles got the inning started for Limestone. A ground out put runners on the corners with two outs and that's when Jessica Ramsey hit a double to center field to score both runs and the game was tied at 4-all. Erika Hansen followed with a double to left field which scored pinch runner Brianna Kelnhofer with the eventual game-winning run.
Leah Quant (7-5) came on in relief in the second inning and tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings. She allowed just one hit, walked three and fanned six. Quant only allowed one Flagler base runner to reach scoring position and retired the last 12 of 14 hitters she faced.
Ashley Cox singled twice and scored three runs. Amanda Hayes singled twice while Ramsey went 2-for-3 with a double and had three runs batted in.
Tinsley Smith (4-2) went the distance and scattered nine hits and allowed five runs in the loss.
Bessent singled twice, scored a run and had a sacrifice hit.

In the second game, Flagler wasted little time again, this time scoring three runs in the first and four in the second to take a commanding 7-1 lead.
Melanie Oliver hit a two-run triple to key the first inning. She scored on
Kirstie Flink's single.
In the second inning, Bessent belted a grand slam and Flagler held a 7-1 lead.
Tori Jolley added an RBI-double in the fifth, but Flagler left the bases loaded.
Limestone made things interesting in the sixth. They sent eight batters to the plate and scored four runs. Alex Brown led off the inning with a home run while Cox capped the inning with a two-run single. But that would be all Limestone could muster for a rally.
Katie Enright (10-6) went the distance and scattered nine hits and allowed three earned runs. She walked two and fanned four.
Bessent singled, homered, drove in four runs and scored two runs.
Lauren Roudabush singled twice and scored two runs while Flink singled twice and knocked in a run.
Kelly Shearer (2-1) tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowed five hits, two earned runs and struck out four.
Taylor Wigmore singled twice and scored a run while Brown singled and homered.
Flagler will play its first home doubleheader since Mar. 11 when it swept Wayne State University of Michigan. Awaiting Flagler on Apr. 3 will be No. 6 (NFCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
