Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College and No. 15 (Collegiate Baseball/Division II) UNC Pembroke split a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader Monday afternoon at Drysdale Field. UNCP won the opener 11-5 while Flagler captured the final game of the series 9-4.

In the opener, the Braves trailed 5-4 going into the top of the ninth inning when they sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven runs, all but one was unearned.

Tyler Ward (2-1), Flagler's third pitcher of the game, came on in relief in the top of the ninth and Jordan Edgerton greeted him with a solo home run to left-center to tie the game at 5-all. Brett Huffman followed with a single up the middle and then took second base when Ward threw to first base on a pickoff attempt, but the ball got away. Zade Denton scored Huffman on a single to center and the Braves took their first lead of the game, 6-5. Later in the inning, Huffman hit a two-run single to center, but was put out trying to advance to second base. The Saints committed four errors in the frame.

Dale Innes (3-1) closed the game by tossing the last three innings without allowing a run and yielded two hits. He fanned three batters. Jordan DeLoatch started and tossed six innings, scattered 11 hits and allowed five runs.

Huffman collected four singles and drove in three runs for UNCP. Edgerton went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three runs batted in. Drew Alford singled, homered and scored two runs.

Ward pitched two-thirds of an inning and surrendered five hits and one earned run. Danny Brown started and lasted seven innings, allowed six hits and three earned runs. He fanned five batters.

Jake Hanson led the Saints offense going 4-for-5 with a double, a run scored and he knocked in a run. Tyler Vanover double, tripled, scored two runs and drove in another. Jake Jacob singled twice and scored two runs.

In the second game, Flagler wiped out a 4-3 deficit with a four-run fifth inning and went on to win 9-4.

A Jay Laurienzo one-out ground-rule double that went into the left-field corner put runners at second and third. Two batters later, Joe Post ripped a single up the middle scoring both runs and the Saints took a 5-4 lead. Later, pinch hitter Brett Moreland hit a two-run double to center and Flagler grabbed a 7-4 lead.

The Saints tacked on single tallies in the sixth and eighth innings.

Jake Brandenberger (6-1) tossed 5 1/3 innings before having to come out of the game due to a minor injury. He scattered six hits and allowed three earned runs. Mike O'Reilly finished the remaining 3 2/3 innings to register his second save of the year. He allowed just two hits.

Chace Mitchell singled three times and scored three runs. Laurienzo went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Post singled twice with a run scored and four RBI.

Logan Cook (2-1) hurled 4 2/3 innings and surrendered nine hits and five earned runs.

Edgerton and Alford each singled twice.

Flagler hosts Rollins College tomorrow (Mar. 26) at 6 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
