Box Score 2 ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College held off Clearwater Christian College 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader then rolled to an 11-2 win in game two to sweep the non-conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Flagler extended its winning streak to four games and improved to 6-2. Clearwater Christian fell to 0-7.
In the opener,
Jake Hanson's two-run single in the third would prove to be the game winning hit as the Saints took a 3-0 lead.
The Cougars made it interesting after Christopher Zweifach hit a run-scoring single and Jake Reidy followed with an RBI double.
But the Saints bullpen made the lead hold in the final two innings for starter
Chris Patrick (2-0) to pick up the win. He tossed five innings and allowed four hits and two runs. Patrick fanned six batters.
Taylor Nelson tossed two-thirds of an inning before handing the ball over to
Beau Beaudreau to close the game and earn his first save. Beaudreau fanned two and surrendered one hit against the five batters he faced.
Nick Kranick singled, tripled and scored two runs.
Brett Moreland singled twice, scored a run and drove in another.
Brandon Gonzalez took the loss for Clearwater Christian. He went the distance and surrendered nine hits, three runs, walked two and fanned four. Gonzalez did throw two wild pitches.
Six different Cougars collected hits.

In the second game, after spotting the Cougars a run in the top of the first, the Saints erupted for three runs in the home half of the inning en route to an 11-2 rout.
Tyler Vanover hit a two-run double in the first inning and
Jay Laurienzo followed with an RBI single.
Flagler put up three more runs in the second and added three more in the sixth, after scoring once in the fifth.
Danny Brown (1-0) tossed five innings, scattered six hits, allowed two runs and struck out five.
Steven Fleming finished the last two innings and gave up two hits, but fanned three batters.
Laurienzo went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and collected two runs batted in. Kranick doubled twice, scored a run and knocked in two more.
Jake Jacob, Moreland and
Andrew Brodbeck each collected two singles. Vanover finished with three RBI.
Stephen Martin took the loss for Clearwater Christian after tossing two innings and allowing eight hits and six runs.
Jefte Velez singled twice and scored a run.
Flagler hits the road for the first time on Tuesday (Feb. 12) at Florida Tech in Melbourne at 6 p.m.
