TALLAHASSEE – Okaro White scored a game-high 23 points and added seven rebounds to help Florida State University to a 76-47 win over Flagler College in a men's basketball exhibition game Monday night at the Tucker Center.

White scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half. He made 8-of-his-12 shots from the field and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Robert Gilchrist added 16 points while Devon Bookert contributed 12 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Seminoles. Montay Brandon tacked on 10 points.

Florida State shot 53.2% (25-47) from the field and used its size advantage inside to out-score the Saints 34-14 in the paint. The Seminoles also forced 17 turnovers and converted them into 24 points.

Matt Conway came off the bench to lead Flagler with 13 points as he sank three 3-pointers. Adam Jones added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals. Dennis Diaz chipped in with eight points. Keith Matthews grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Flagler ran into foul trouble late in the game as three of its players, two starters and leading scorer, fouled out - Matthews, Diaz and Conway.

The Saints were limited to 23.3% (7-30) shooting from the field in the first half. Flagler made 8-of-29 3-point field goal attempts.   

The Seminoles jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead, but a Matthews 3-pointer with 10:03 to go in the first half cut the lead to one (15-14). However, Florida State closed the half on a 20-5 run to go into the locker room with a 35-19 lead.

The Saints were stubborn in the second half and kept on hanging around. A Diaz transition layup cut the Florida State lead to nine (42-33) with 15:09 to go, and a couple of minutes later, Desmond Gibson, from nearby Havana, added a basket to keep the spread at nine points (44-35).

Florida State scored the next six points, all from the free throw line, to pull away.

Conway sank a 3-pointer with 8:23 left to get the Saints to within 11 (53-42), but Flagler would go on to score just one basket the rest of the game.

The Saints will open their 2013-14 campaign on Nov. 19 at Saint Leo University at 8 p.m.
