Shanahan converts PK in Flagler’s 1-0 win

Box Score PEMBROKE, N.C. – Zach Shanahan was fouled inside the box in the 52nd minute and he took the following penalty kick and converted it which is all the offense Flagler College needed in a 1-0 win at UNC Pembroke in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday night.

Flagler has reeled off back-to-back shutouts to improve to 4-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Peach Belt. UNC Pembroke lost its third match in a row and dropped to 5-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 in conference play. The Braves have lost two of their last three games by the same 1-0 score.

Shanahan was fouled by UNCP's Payne Clark to set up the penalty attempt.

Camp Bissell saved two shots to earn his second shutout of the season. Ryan Hanson kept the Braves in the match with 11 saves.

The Saints were active in the offensive third as they out-shot the Braves 22-9. Flagler put 12 shots on frame while UNC Pembroke was only able to muster two.

Despite the difference in shots, the Braves held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Flagler committed 14 fouls while UNCP was tagged 13 times.

Flagler wraps up its road trip on Wednesday (Oct. 9) at USC Aiken.
