Marco Warren's header in the 66th minute broke a 1-all tie as Flagler College rallied to defeat No. 1-ranked (NAIA) Lindsey Wilson College 2-1 in a non-conference men's soccer match Wednesday night at Saints Field.
Flagler ran its winning streak to five straight and improved to 7-3-2 overall. Lindsey Wilson had its 11-match unbeaten streak end and fell to 9-2-2.
Thomas Gallitz lofted a cross pass from the right side of the penalty box to Warren who was charging down the opposite side to the far post and headed the ball in for the game-winner.
Stephen Pratt scored the equalizer when he knocked in
Triston Hall's deflected pass to the far post in the 63rd minute. Hall's pass was tipped by the Lindsey Wilson keeper.
The only tally for the Blue Raiders came when Tom Moody converted a penalty kick in the 31st minute.
Lindsey Wilson, located in Columbia, Ky., has won nine NAIA national titles, including the most recent one in 2011. Last year the Blue Raiders were eliminated in the national semifinals.
Josiah Holtz recorded one save and faced 10 shots. Yuta Nomura tallied five saves for Lindsey Wilson.
Flagler out-shot Lindsey Wilson 15-10 and held a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. The Blue Raiders held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. Lindsey Wilson committed 17 fouls while Flagler was whistled 15 times.
Flagler steps back into Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday (Oct. 19) against No. 12-ranked (NSCAA/Continental Tire Division II Top 25) Lander University at Saints Field at 7:30 p.m.
