ST. AUGUSTINE – Megan Barnwell and Caitlin Campbell each tossed shutouts as No. 7 (NFCA Division II Top 25) Armstrong Atlantic State University swept a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader from Flagler College, 1-0 and 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Flagler Field.

Flagler played its final home game and honored its nine seniors prior to the game: Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs HS), Chelsea Welch (Pensacola, Fla., Escambia HS), Kristen Chapman (Jacksonville, Fla., Sandalwood HS), Kaycee Lisa (Seminole, Fla., Seminole HS), Alona Personius (Lake Stevens, Wash., Florida State College-Jacksonville), Donna Munafo (Satellite Beach, Fla., Brevard CC), Breezy Collings (Orange City, Fla., Brevard CC), Sarah Albino (Adelaide, Australia, Florida State College-Jacksonville), and Robyn Draper (Brampton, Ontario, State College of Florida).

Armstrong extends its winning streak to 11 games and improved to 37-8 overall and 13-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 34-14 overall and 11-7 in conference play.

In the opener, Barnwell (16-3) retired the first six batters she faced and allowed only four Flagler base runners to reach scoring position. She tossed a five-hit shutout and fanned 10 batters.

The Pirates did all of their damage in the first inning. Celia Blome was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, and two batters later moved to third on Baillie Temples' base hit. Whitney Galloway doubled to left-center to plate Blome with the only run of the game.

Temples and Galloway each collected two hits for the Pirates.

Munafo (16-3) was victimized by a lack of run support for the second consecutive outing. She retired 11 batters in a row after Galloway's RBI double in the first. Munafo scattered six hits, allowed one run and fanned six.

Lauren Roudabush (Marengo, Ill., Marengo HS) doubled in the seventh inning for the Saints.

In the second game, Campbell (17-3) tossed a two-hit shutout and fanned five batters. After the first Flagler batter reached on an error, she retired the next 17 of 18 batters.

Like the first game, the Pirates got all the runs they would need in the first inning. Eight batters came to the plate for Armstrong and they collected five hits. Temples hit a one-out single up the middle to put runners on the corners, then Galloway tapped one back to Flagler pitcher Katie Enright (Oakland, N.J., Indian Hills HS) (8-4) which tipped off her glove and Blome scored from third base. After another infield single loaded the bases, Brittany Cooley hit a single through the left side of the infield to score Temples. Enright got out of the jam with a ground out and a strikeout.

Heather Walker singled twice for the Pirates. Ashley Buckett hit a double.

Enright allowed eight hits and two runs, but struck out seven batters.

Roudabush and Draper each collected a single for Flagler.

The Saints will be off until next Saturday's (Apr. 14) regular season finale at No. 19 Augusta State University at noon.
