ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 17 (USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Top 25) Lander University opened the second half on a 21-7 run to pull away and defeat Flagler College 66-45 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

Lander improved to 18-4 overall and 13-1 in Peach Belt Conference play. Flagler lost its 10th game in a row and fell to 2-20 overall and 1-14 in conference play.

Keondra Barnes led the Lady Bearcats with 12 points and six rebounds. Janyce Ealey came off the bench to add 11 points and seven rebounds. Ciara Lyons chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. She scored 35 points vs. Flagler earlier in the season.

Lander out-rebounded Flagler 48-36, including 26 offensive rebounds which led to 23 second chance points. The Lady Bearcats also induced 28 Saints turnovers and converted them into 32 points.

Rachel Brown (Clearwater, Fla., Clearwater HS) scored a game-high 14 points, grabbed four rebounds and blocked four shots. Charlsea Owen (St. Augustine, Fla., Pedro Menendez HS) tallied 11 points and sank three 3-pointers. Latesha Johnson (St. Petersburg, Fla., Lakewood HS) scored eight points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out six assists.

Lander struggled in shooting from the field in the first half with a 30.6% (11-36), but held a 28-21 lead.

Brown made a 7-foot jumper and then sank a pair of free throws to pull Flagler to within five (30-25) with 18:35 left in the game and that's when Lander went on a 19-3 run over the next 8:32 to put the game out of reach.

Flagler will go on its final conference road trip of the season next weekend. The Saints open at Francis Marion University on Saturday (Feb. 18) at 1:30 p.m. in Florence, S.C.
