Emilee Taylor and
Dianna Craine combined for 29 kills and 33 digs to help lead Flagler College to a 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-16, 27-25) win over USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at the Convocation Center.
Flagler improved to 19-9 overall and 11-2 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken fell to 18-11 overall and 7-6 in conference play.
Taylor recorded a match-high 18 kills and collected 13 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. Craine added 11 kills and 20 digs for her 12th double-double of the season.
Crystal Niederriter who had missed most of the season due to injury had a breakout match. She collected a season-high 12 kills and hit .417 with just two errors on 24 swings.
Casey Gnann collected a match-high 34 digs while
Amelia Morgan tallied 50 assists and added seven digs.
Ashley Diedrich led the Pacers with 12 kills and Danika Maggard chipped in with 11 more kills. Samantha Lukralle led team with 24 digs while Ashley Farwell recorded a double-double with 24 assists and 15 digs.
The Saints opened the first set on a 9-2 run, and the Pacers contributed six points on hitting errors. Flagler captured the first set 25-19 after holding USC Aiken to a .067 hitting percentage.
The second set saw 11 ties and three lead changes. After an ace by Morgan for the Saints, Flagler took a 21-17 lead. The Pacers reeled of the next six points in a row to take a 23-21 lead. A Diedrich kill set-up set point for USCA, but a kill by
Sophie Meyer cut the Pacer lead to 24-23. Shannon Byers put away a kill to finish the set in a 25-23 win for the Pacers.
Flagler used an 8-3 run in the second set to break away and take a 17-9 lead. The Saints hit .297 in a 25-16 win.
The fourth set saw both offenses struggle as the Pacers hit .105 and the Saints .096. There were nine ties and five lead changes. A Meyer kill gave Flagler its largest lead of the set, 18-13, but USC Aiken chipped away and tied the set at 22-all after another Byers kill. With the scored tied at 25, Taylor served an ace, and on match point, Byers had an attack error and Flagler won 27-25.
Flagler will wrap up its regular season tomorrow at noon against Lander University at Greenwood, S.C. The Saints will host the Peach Belt Conference Championships Nov. 16-18 at Flagler Gymnasium.
