AMERICUS, Ga. – Adrian Randall led five players in double figures to help Georgia Southwestern State University triumph over Flagler College 87-50 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Monday afternoon at The Storm Dome.
Georgia Southwestern snapped its two-game losing streak an improved to 10-4 overall and 2-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its third game in a row and dropped to 2-13 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
Randall made eight of her 14 shots from the field and added nine rebounds and five blocked shots. Jessica Bivins tallied 14 points while Terra Branch added 13 points and made three 3-pointers. Samantha Smith recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Briana Walker tacked on 10 points for the Lady Hurricanes. Tania Walters contributed nine points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Georgia Southwestern dominated the paint, out-scoring Flagler 47-20. The Lady Hurricanes forced 26 Saints turnovers and converted them into 33 points. The Georgia Southwestern defense held Flagler to 31.1% shooting from the field, including 29% in the second half.
Taye'Lor Trotter (St. Petersburg, Fla., Lakewood HS) led the Saints with 10 points, half of which came from the free throw line where she was a perfect 5-for-5.
Charlsea Owen (St. Augustine, Fla., Pedro Menendez HS) added nine points and five rebounds.
Latesha Johnson (St. Petersburg, Fla., Lakewood HS) chipped in with seven points and five rebounds while
Treva Mason (Orlando, Fla., West Orange HS) tacked on six points and eight rebounds.
The Saints made 11-of-its-14 free throw attempts.
Flagler got off to a good start as it jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, but Georgia Southwestern would go on a 28-4 run over a 9:02 span to seize control of the game. The Lady Hurricanes shot 57.8% (11-19) from the field in the run and the defense held the Saints to a 12.5% (2-16) clip from the field.
Flagler hosts No. 3 Clayton State University on Thursday (Jan. 19) at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
