No. 2 North Georgia tops No. 24 Flagler 6-1 in Dahlonega Region final

DAHLONEGA, Ga. − No. 2 (NFCA Division II Top 25) North Georgia College & State University used a four-run third inning to defeat No. 24 Flagler College 6-1 to win the 2011 NCAA Division II Dahlonega Regional Championship Sunday afternoon at Hill Stadium.

North Georgia improves to 50-9 on the season and advances to the Southeast Super Regional next weekend against Lenoir-Rhyne University in a best-of-three series. Flagler wrapped up its season 42-18, the most wins ever in the three-year history of the program.

Kayla Martin led off the second inning with a home run and then erupted for four runs in the fourth inning. Natasha Willemse hit a two-run single and two batters later, Kasey Knight did the same.

Flagler's Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs HS) doubled home a run in the fifth, but that would be all Flagler would be able to put up on the scoreboard.

Jessica Coan (26-4) tossed a complete game four-hitter. She allowed one run, walked two and struck out seven.

Willemse singled twice, drove in two runs and scored a run. 

Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla., Central Florida CC) (20-5) tossed 3.2 innings and allowed three hits, three runs, walked three and fanned three.

Alona Personius (Lake Stevens, Wash., Florida State College-Jacksonville) doubled for Flagler and Robyn Draper (Brampton, Ontario, State College of Florida) scored Flagler's only run.
