FLORENCE, S.C. − The Flagler College softball completed its run at the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Tournament with a 2-2 record having split two games early Saturday at the Freedom Florence Complex. Flagler staved off elimination with a 4-1 win over Columbus State University, but suffered a 3-1 defeat to Augusta State University.
Flagler's record season record is now 40-16 and the Saints will await the selection show for a potential at-large berth into the Southeast Regional May 13-15.
In the opener, and RBI triple by
Lauren Bessent (Jacksonville, Fla., Trinity Christian Academy) in the third inning broke a scoreless tie and she scored on
Lauren Ely's (Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs HS) bunt to give Flagler a 2-0 lead.
The Saints took advantage of four Lady Cougar miscues to score twice in the fifth inning. With runners on the corners,
Tori Jolley (Keystone Heights, Fla., Keystone Heights HS) reached on a fielding error by Columbus State reliever Jennifer Isasi and made it all the way to third with an additional error by the right fielder.
Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla., Central Florida CC) (18-4) pitched a complete game and scattered six hits, one run and struck out six to earn the win for the Saints.
Robyn Draper (Brampton, Ontario, State College of Florida) singled, doubled and scored a run for Flagler.
Erin Tyson (4-3) started and tossed two-plus innings, allowed two hits and two runs and picked up the loss in the circle.
Keeley Kennedy and Nina Runio each singled twice for Columbus State. Rocky Hemmer doubled in the seventh.

Against Augusta State in another elimination game, the Jaguars scored three unearned runs on their way to a 3-1 win.
In the first inning, a passed ball led to the first run of the game scoring. In the fourth inning, with runners at first and second and one out, Heather Hughes reached on a fielder's choice, but an errant throw by the Flagler third baseman allowed two runs to score and Hughes to reach third.
Flagler would get a run back in the bottom of the fourth when
Alona Personius (Lake Stevens, Wash., Florida State College-Jacksonville) led off the inning with a home run to left-center.
Emily Headrick (17-5) and Hughes combined to keep Flagler's offense at bay for the remainder of the game. Headrick tossed five innings, allowed two hits, a run and struck out three. Hughes earned her second save of the season after pitching two scoreless innings.
Kacey Sims doubled for the Jaguars.
Kalyn Loverich (St. Johns, Fla., Bartram Trail HS) (13-5) pitched a complete game and surrendered two hits, three unearned runs, walked three and struck out seven in the loss.
Personius went 3-for-3 with a double and her 11th home run of the season.
