PEMBROKE, N.C. − Flagler College and the University of North Carolina Pembroke split a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at LRA Field. Flagler won the opener 5-0 while UNC Pembroke took the second game 3-2.

Flagler wrapped up the regular season with a 38-14 overall record and a 12-8 mark in the Peach Belt. UNCP concluded its regular season with a 21-22 overall record and an 8-12 record in league play. The Peach Belt Conference Tournament will be held Apr. 15-17 at the Freedom Florence Complex in Florence, S.C. There are a couple of teams who have make-up dates so the field has not been determined, but Flagler has guaranteed its spot. UNC Pembroke is currently in seventh place.

In the opener, Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla., Central Florida CC) (16-4) dominated in the circle as she retired the first 10 batters she faced. She tossed six scoreless innings, allowed one hit, walked a batter and fanned nine. Riddick retired another seven batters on fly outs. Donna Munafo (Satellite Beach, Fla., Brevard CC) mopped up the last inning with two strike outs and one walk.

Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs HS) provided all the offense Flagler would need in the first inning with an inside the park home run. She belted a 3-2 pitch down the right field line which barely eluded the glove of UNCP's right fielder. It was her first career home run.

The Saints added four more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by three consecutive RBI singles by Ely, Alona Personius (Lake Stevens, Wash., Florida State College-Jacksonville) and Breezy Collings (Orange City, Fla., Brevard CC).

Ely went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Personius singled twice, scored a run and drove in another.

Caroline Newman (2-4) took the loss in just 1.1 innings of work for the Lady Braves. She allowed one hit, one run, walked four and struck out two. Starr Gilley finished the game and allowed seven hits, two earned runs, walked two and fanned seven.

Taylor Cloninger had the lone hit for UNC Pembroke.
