CLEARWATER − Flagler College, ranked No. 22 (NFCA/Division II Top 25) in the country, split a non-conference doubleheader Friday evening at the Eckerd Triton Spring Invitational at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. Flagler lost the opener to the University of Tampa, 7-2, but salvaged the nightcap with a 9-1 rout of Palm Beach Atlantic University.

Flagler's record stands at 17-1 on the season. The loss to Tampa snapped Flagler's 16-game winning streak. Tampa improved to 7-1 and Palm Beach Atlantic fell to 8-6.

In the opener, a combined six errors (five by Flagler) led to just one earned run between the two teams.

Both pitchers asserted themselves well in the early going. Flagler's Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla., Central Florida CC) (8-1) retired the first 12-of-14 batters she faced, including setting down the first six batters in a row. Her counterpart, Deanna Henriott (5-0) retired the first seven-of-eight batters she faced.

The Saints plated a pair of unearned runs in the third inning, but the Spartans got one back on a solo home run by Beck Vyzas in the fourth inning, and then scored three unearned runs in the fifth. Tampa took advantage of a pair of Flagler miscues to score the runs.

The Spartans cashed in on three more Saints errors in the top of the seventh and scored three runs for insurance.

Henriott tossed a complete game and allowed three hits, two unearned runs and struck out 13 batters.

Vyzas went 2-for-4 with the home run and collected three runs batted in.

Riddick went the distance and scattered five hits and one earned run. She struck out seven batters.

Alona Personius (Lake Stevens, Wash., Florida State College-Jacksonville)Breezy Collings (Orange City, Fla., Brevard CC) and Tori Jolley (Keystone Heights, Fla., Keystone Heights HS) all singled for the Saints.
