ST. AUGUSTINE − Flagler College benefitted from some poor defensive play by Florida Southern College as it swept a non-conference softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. Flagler won the opener 8-0 in five innings, due to the mercy rule, and then took the second game 6-4.
Flagler raised its record to 14-0 while Florida Southern fell to 2-2.
In the opener, the Moccasins committed three errors which led to four unearned runs. That would be more than enough run support for Flagler pitcher
Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla., Central Florida CC) (7-0) who went the distance and scattered four hits and struck out four batters. She only allowed two base runners to reach scoring position.
The Saints scored all the runs they would need in the first inning.
Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs HS) hit a one-out single to center, stole second, and scored on
Alona Personius' (Lake Stevens, Wash., Florida State College-Jacksonville) double to center.
Flagler added two runs in the second, both scored on
Lauren Bessent's (Jacksonville, Fla., Trinity Christian Academy) triple. The Saints plated five in fourth.
Six different Flagler players recorded hits.
Breezy Collings (Orange City, Fla., Brevard CC) hit a double.
Christine Clark (2-1) took the loss in the circle for the Mocs. She lasted 3.2 innings, allowed six hits, one earned run and struck out two. Four different Florida Southern players singled.
