SAVANNAH, Ga. – D.D. Gipson came off the bench to score a team-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Armstrong Atlantic State University to an 88-64 win over Flagler College in the Peach Belt Conference season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena.

Armstrong won its second game in a row an improved to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its second consecutive game and fell to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Demisha Mills added 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Angelia Hill chipped in with 11 points, six assists and five rebounds. Karolina Rykowska tacked on 10 points. Mauri Wells grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.

Armstrong forced 20 Flagler turnovers and converted them into 26 points. The Pirates out-scored the Saints in transition 14-3. Armstrong out-rebounded Flagler 48-35 and grabbed 22 offensive rebounds.

Taye'Lor Trotter (St. Petersburg, Fla., Lakewood HS) scored a game-high 21 points coming off the bench for Flagler. She made 8-of-15 from the field. Treva Mason (Orlando, Fla., West Orange HS) corralled a team-high 10 rebounds. Charlsea Owen (St. Augustine, Fla., Pedro Menendez HS) tallied a team-high five assists.

A Gipson 6-foot jumper started an Armstrong 12-2 run midway through the first half which pushed a one-point Pirate lead to a 20-9 advantage. The lead would swell to as many as 21 in the first half before Armstrong settled on a 42-26 lead at the half.

Flagler will break for final exams before heading to face No. 21 (WBCA Division II Top 25) USC Aiken on Saturday (Dec. 10) at 1:30 p.m.
