ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College head volleyball coach Taylor Mott has announced the signing of two student-athletes for the 2012 season.

Amelia Morgan from Rocky Mountain High School in Ft. Collins, Colo., and Rachel Wilkes from Argyle (Texas) High School will both don Flagler crimson and gold next fall.

Morgan is a 5-foot-9 setter who helped lead the Lobos to a 24-5 season and a berth into the Class 5A state tournament this year. She was a member of two Front Range Conference championships. Morgan earned honorable mention all-conference and first-team academic all-state honors.

“Rachel is a tremendous athlete and I feel she will be able to contribute in many ways to the program,” said Mott. ‘What I like most about Rachel is her never quit attitude.”

Wilkes is a 5-foot-8 outside hitter helped lead the Lady Eagles to a 38-4 record and an appearance in the Class 3A Region II quarterfinals this fall. Argyle High was one ranked as high as No. 2 in Texas. She was named the District 9-3A Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Lady Eagles with 431 kills, 126 aces, and 264 digs. She also added 41 total blocks. Wilkes was named to the All-VYPE-DFW Greater Fort Worth second-team.

“Amelia is a very skilled setter that has a great court presence and is able to run the offense,” said Mott. “We look for Amelia to have an immediate impact on the program.”

Flagler is coming off a 31-7 season where it advanced to the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinals. The Saints were ranked No. 14 in the final AVCA Division II Top 25 poll. Flagler loses three players to graduation, but return five starters and the libero to next year’s team. However, the Saints will have a new coach, a process that is currently underway. Mott announced her resignation early last month.
