ST. AUGUSTINE – Augusta State University used a 20-5 run to open the second half to pull away from and defeat Flagler College 60-49 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Augusta State won its fourth consecutive game of the season and improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its fourth straight and fell to 1-7 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.

Tioffany Jaecks and Britany White each tallied 10 points for the Lady Jaguars. White added five rebounds and five steals to her line. Laci Schreiber grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Becky Newhouse added eight points, five rebounds and three assists.

Augusta State out-rebounded Flagler 50-38 and grabbed 19 offensive rebounds. The Lady Jaguars forced 22 Saint turnovers and converted them into 19 points.

Taye'Lor Trotter (St. Petersburg, Fla., Lakewood HS) poured in a game-high 21 points and sank three 3-pointers for the Saints. Charlsea Owen (St. Augustine, Fla., Pedro Menendez HS) added nine points. Jen Knurek (Orlando, Fla., Lake Mary HS) led the team with eight rebounds.

The Lady Jaguards held a 29-24 lead at the half, and came out and scored the first 10 points in second half. That started a 20-5 run which lasted 7;40 and gave Augusta State its largest lead of the game (49-29) with 11:19 to go.

The Saints countered with its own 16-4 run sparked by a 5-foot jumper by Rachel Brown (Clearwater, Fla., Clearwater HS). A Trotter pull-up jumper capped the run and trimmed Augusta State lead to 53-45 with 3:30 left in the game. That would be as close as Flagler could get as it only made two field goals in the remainder of the game. 

Flagler hosts UNC Pembroke on Saturday (Dec. 17) at 1:30 at Flagler Gymnasium.
