Flagler surges past Webber International in second half

ST. AUGUSTINE – Shelbi Lindsey (Apopka, Fla., Lake Mary HS) scored 13 of her team-high 17 points in the second half to help Flagler College topple Webber International University 82-62 in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler snapped its three-game losing streak and improved to 1-3. Webber International suffered its sixth consecutive loss and dropped to 0-6.

Jen Knurek (Orlando, Fla., Lake Mary HS) recorded a double-double for the Saints with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Latesha Johnson (St. Petersburg, Fla., Lakewood HS) added 12 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals. Taye'Lor Trotter (St. Petersburg, Fla., Lakewood HS) came off the bench to add 12 points.

Flagler struggled from the field in the first half, shooting 23.5% (8-34), but recovered in the second half making 50% (17-34) of its attempts. The Saints out-scored the Lady Warriors 38-14 in the paint.

Sarah Dileonardo led WIU with 17 points and added eight rebounds before fouling out. Kala Alicea came off the bench to provide 10 points Kadejah Maple grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Saints used an 18-2 run which covered 4:27 to erase a one-point deficit with 1:26 left in the first half and take a 15-point lead (41-26) after a Knurek layup with 16:38 left in the game. Lindsey and Knurek each scored six points in the run.

The lead would swell to as many as 25 (62-37) after a pair of Trotter free throws with 8:52 left.

Flagler will break for Thanksgiving and return to the court on Nov. 30 when its hosts Florida Southern College at 7 p.m.
