Mountain Lions surge past Saints, 64-49

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Ladronda Johnson scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help lead Young Harris College to a 64-49 win over Flagler College in the Wingate by Wyndham Lady Pirate Classic  Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena.

Young Harris improved to 3-1 overall while Flagler fell to 0-3.

Lauren Smith added 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals while Shereese Williams grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and added six points before fouling out. Keta Robinette came off the bench to tally eight points and dish out four assists.

Young Harris out-rebounded Flagler 43-29. The Mountain Lions also held the Saints to 29.8% (17-57) shooting in the game, including 23.1% (6-26) in the first half.

Jen Knurek (Orlando, Fla., Lake Mary HS) scored a team-high 15 points for the Saints and added seven rebounds. Charlsea Owen (St. Augustine, Fla., Pedro Menendez HS) tallied nine points, all on 3-pointers.

Young Harris opened the game on a 12-2 run and never looked back. The Mountain Lions built their biggest lead (35-13) with 3:25 left in the first half, and went into the locker rooms with a 35-16 lead.

Flagler showed its resiliency as after trailing by 22, the Saints followed by going on a 25-7 run over 13:05 to rally to within four points (42-38) with 9:56 left. Knurek scored nine of her 15 points in that run

But Young Harris countered with its own 18-7 run to put the game out of reach.

Flagler hosts Webber International University on Tuesday (Nov. 22) at 7 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
