SAVANNAH, Ga. – Alissa Diaz led a balanced scoring attack for Anderson University in a 67-50 win over Flagler College in the first round of the Wingate by Wyndham Lady Pirate Classic Friday evening at Alumni Arena.

Anderson improved to 1-2 while Flagler fell to 0-2.

Tildi Ahlin added 11 points and seven rebounds while Amanda Parris chipped in 10 points. Breonda Shannon tallied nine points and grabbed six rebounds.

Anderson made 88.9% (24-27) of its shots from the free throw line.

Shelbi Lindsey (Apopka, Fla., Lake Mary HS) scored a team-high 12 points for Flagler. Charlsea Owen (St. Augustine, Fla., Pedro Menendez HS) scored all 11 of her points in the first half. Jen Knurek (Orlando, Fla., Lake Mary HS) chipped in with six points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Latesha Johnson (St. Petersburg, Fla., Lakewood HS) came off the bench to add eight points, seven rebounds and tally a game-high seven steals. Rachel Brown (Clearwater, Fla., Clearwater HS) recorded four blocked shots.

The Saints led by as many as seven points (21-14) in the first half, after a Johnson fastbreak layup with 8:14 to go in the half. The Trojans closed out the first half on a 20-7 run to take a 34-28 lead into the break.

Anderson opened the second half on a 23-8 run for a combined 43-15 spurt over 20:27.

Flagler will take on Young Harris College at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow (Nov. 19) to complete the two-day classic tournament.
