PONTE VEDRA BEACH – The No. 21 (Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Poll) Flagler College men's golf team is in sixth place after two rounds at the Marjorie Whitney Invitational Monday at TPC Sawgrass Pete Dye's Valley Course (par: 72; yards: 6848). The final round will be played tomorrow morning.

Flagler shot a 310 in the first round and followed with a 307 to close with a 617. The Saints are 24 shots back of the leader, No. 14 Nova Southeastern University, who shot a 593. NSU holds a six-shot lead over No. 4 Barry University and the rest of the 12-team field.

Ben Taylor of Nova Southeastern leads the 64-man field with a 5-under par 139 and is one of only three players to shoot under par. Taylor has the lowest round of the tournament with a 5-under 67 in the second round. He holds a four-shot lead over Greg Mergel (Allenwood, N.J., Wall Township HS) of Flagler College and Daniel Stapff of Barry. Mergel shot an even par 72 in the first round and shot 1-under in the second round.

Andrew McCracken (Virginia Beach, Va., First Colonial HS) is in 24th place with a 10-over 154 for Flagler. Two Saints are tied for 35th place. Joel Dahlenburg (St. Augustine, Fla., Bartram Trail HS) and Michael Boss (Lewiston, N.Y., Lewiston Porter HS) each shot a 16-over 160. Travis Ralph (St. Petersburg, Fla., St. Petersburg College) rounds out the team with a 23-over 167 and is in a tie for 55th place.
