AUGUSTA, Ga. − Flagler College split a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader with No. 16 (NFCA Division II Top 25) Augusta State University Friday afternoon at Jaguar Field. Augusta State won the opener 3-0 while Flagler took the second game, 2-1.

Flagler is now 25-17 overall and 7-7 in the Peach Belt while Augusta State is now 34-12 overall and 13-5 in the league.

In the opener, Kimberly Kennedy (6-2) tossed a complete game two-hit shutout for the Jaguars. She struck out 10 and retired 18-of-the-first-20-batters she faced. Kennedy only allowed two runners to reach scoring position.

She got all the runs she would need in the first inning. After Kacey Sims hit a one-out single and then stole second, Kristen Jones scored Sims with a double and ASU grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Jones hit a lead-off home run in the fourth inning for the Jaguars' other tally.

Kelly Riddick (Hampton, Fla./Central Florida CC) (15-10) went the distance and surrendered seven hits, two earned runs and fanned six.

Heather Hill (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Indian River CC) doubled and Tori Jolley (Keystone Heights, Fla./Keystone Heights HS) singled for the Saints.

In the second game, Katherine Cabrera (Hialeah, Fla./Miami Dade College) had the game-winning hit with an RBI single in the third in Flagler's 2-1 win.

The Saints took advantage of a Jaguar miscue in the first inning as Brittney Hatem (Hialeah, Fla./Wallace CC-Dothan) led off the game by reaching on an error by the ASU shortstop. She was sacrificed over to second and scored when Cabrera reached on an error by the pitcher.

In the third, Hatem hit a one-out single and then advanced to second when Lauren Ely (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) drew a walk. A passed ball moved them up a base and Hatem scored on Cabrera's single.

Augusta State's tally came in the fourth when Kayla Hicks singled in a run.

Kristen Chapman (Jacksonville, Fla./Sandalwood HS) (8-5) tossed a complete game and scattered seven hits and allowed one run. She retired 11 batters on ground outs and nine more on fly outs.

Hatem and Cabrera had the lone hits for the Saints.

Sara DeMuth (14-5) went the distance in the loss. She allowed the two hits, one earned run and fanned six.

Sims singled twice for the Jaguars.

Flagler finishes its road swing tomorrow (Apr. 3) with another conference doubleheader at Georgia College & State University at noon.
